Elon Musk has acknowledged that they "dropped the ball badly" on the Model X's manufacturing as a result of
the regrettable delay in the facelifted model's release to customers—October 2021. Sawyer Merritt, a Tesla
investor, sparked Musk's remarks on Twitter, claiming that the updated Model X rollout was a complete
disaster, made worse by a lack of communication with customers who had been waiting for their cars for a year
or longer. Production of the pre-facelift Model X in December 2020 helped prepare for the official January 2021
unveiling of the facelifted Tesla Model S and Model X.
